Player Warnings
Texas Basketball League
Credible sources have told WWPI that the Texas Basketball League and Benjamin Brinkley, aka Charles Johnson, have been scamming players and coaches. Some of our past participants have traveled to Texas after being promised a contract to play and/or to coach. After arriving, they were told that the league was folding and they were not compensated at all. Please be advised and contact WWPI if you have any questions regarding this league. Furthermore, it has been told to us that Benjamin Brinkley has claimed to be associated with Winning Ways Pro International. WWPI is in no way associated with Mr. Brinkley or the Texas Basketball League.
Fred Morris
Fred Morris claims to be an American living in the UK. He will tell you that he found you online and that he has set up numerous tryouts in front of pro teams in and around London. He will go on to say that the teams will pay you $2500 per tryout. However, he must get 40% of the payments. He will also tell you that you will stay with him in his house. This is a scam.
Nicaragua Basketball
Frola Facundo, csm_prestige@yahoo.com, will contact you and say that he has connections with a team in the second division in Nicaragua. He will then take your info down and say that he will give it to the director of the team. In one case the team was the Pumas. The director will contact you. In one case, he used the actual name of the director of the Pumas, Bonilla Sergio. However, this was not actually Bonilla Sergio. After giving you a contract and going over some details, he will then state that he needs you to split the $500 legal fees that his lawyer is charging to complete the legal aspect of the contracts. His lawyer, will be located in Nigeria. It turns out that all of the people involved are located in Nigeria and have been running scams on EuroBasket for awhile now. Please be cautious.
Tapgun Rockets
Team representatives have contacted players asking them to join their team in London, England. However, according to Eurobasket.com, the Tapgun Rockets are located in Nigeria. Nigeria is a country with a reputation for running basketball scams. After initial conversations with the "coach", he will tell the player that he is going to send a package containing flight information, travel documents, and other materials. A few days later the player will be contacted again and told that he needs to Western Union 130 pounds to someone in London. WWPI always advises players to never pay for anything ahead of arriving at your playing destination. The only exception to this rule is high level teams in the Middle East. Some of these teams are asking players to purchase their own airline tickets and then telling the player they will reimburse them when they get their. This is true. These teams have been paying for player tickets and the players have not been showing up. That is why they now make the player purchase the ticket on his own (only some teams do this). Furthermore, WWPI is not affiliated with this organization and has not provided any player information directly to this "team".
"South Africa"
People claiming to be with South African teams Kwazulu and Cape Town have been contacting players. They give them a very legit looking contract and then when it gets down to the end they ask them for 3000 ZAR (just over $400 USD). The names of these so called representatives are:
David Woolworth (davidwoolworth77@gmail.com)
Delport Myles
Daniel Craig
Please contact WWPI immeditaley if contacting by anyone claiming to be one of these three men.
